Steven Gerrard thinks that the key to any potential Liverpool success this season will be the form and fitness of Roberto Firmino.
It was a sensational season for Liverpool last season, reaching the Champions League final, as well as enjoying some breathtaking football along the way, being the only side to seemingly have the measure of Premier League champions Manchester City.
Mo Salah and his 44 goal haul understandably grabbed the headlines, according to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, it is in fact Roberto Firmino who is the key in the Reds attack:
“Firmino is an absolute genius when you watch him close up,” Gerrard told BBC Radio 5Live.
“He’s as interested in setting up a goal as scoring one.”
“The key is Firmino.”
The Brazilian was directly involved in 44 goals last season, scoring 27 and providing 17 assists in what was the most creative season of his career to date. He is already off the mark in 2018/19, scoring three and providing two assists so far.
