The new our manager Roy Hongson has described his
appointment as an opportunity that was "absolutely impossible to turn
down". Hodgson was Liverpool's first choice to replace Rafael Benítez
after two and a half impressive seasons at Fulham, which culminated in
them reaching last season's Europa League final.
Hodgson admitted
it had been difficult to leave Fulham, where he had built up a bank of
goodwill, but believes taking on the Anfield job will be a highlight of
his long and varied managerial career that has included stints in charge
of Internazionale, Blackburn Rovers and the Switzerland and Finland
national teams.HIs appointment, on a 3 year contract, has already received the baking of the captain Steven Gerrard, and Hodgson is keen
to begin the job of reviving the club's on-field fortunes after they
finished seventh in the Premier League table last term. |

Fernando Torres apparently did not want Rafa Benitez to leave
Liverpool but admits his fellow Spaniard's departure was "best for
everyone".
Benitez was the man who brought Torres to Merseyside for a
£20million fee in the summer of 2007.
And the former Atletico Madrid striker was a central figure as
the Reds pushed Manchester United all the way in the Premier League
title race in 2008-9.
But last season was a major letdown for the Anfield giants, and
it ended with Benitez departing to take over newly-crowned European
champions Inter Milan.
Torres, whose future has also been the subject of much
speculation this summer, is quoted in the Liverpool Echo as
saying: "At this time I believe it was best for everyone. He won
everything and last year they demanded too much from him."
